Rolf Sommer

Rolf Sommer (* July 17, 1920 - April 13, 1980 ) was a soccer player in Leipzig . He played for TuRa Leipzig in the Gauliga, for ZSG / Chemie Leipzig and Einheit Ost Leipzig in the GDR Oberliga . With Chemie Leipzig he was GDR champion in 1951.

At the age of 20, Sommer was already playing for Tura Leipzig in the Gauliga Sachsen , one of the 18 highest soccer leagues in Germany at the time. In the Gaume Championship 1938/39, he played 17 of the 18 played point games and scored three goals. He started as a striker this season but was pulled back to midfield over the course of the season. In the shortened program of the Gauliga 1939/40 he was in seven of the ten point games and played three times in the Tschammerpokal competition . In 1940/41 he was only used in two point games in November. Then the Second World War interrupted his athletic career.

After the end of the war, Tura Leipzig was dissolved and initially replaced by SG Leipzig-Leutzsch , to which Sommer belonged from the beginning. From 1945 to 1948 he played with the Leutzschern for the Leipzig city championship. In March 1949 the SG was taken over by the newly formed ZSG Industrie Leipzig. This came third in the Saxony Championship in May 1949 and Sommer was a right winger in all six finals. With four goals he was Leipzig's most successful attacker in the finals. At times, summer was also part of the line-up of the state selection of Saxony, with which he played four games. For the 1949/50 season, the ZSG was one of the founding teams of the upper league of the German Sports Committee , the highest East German football class. On the 8th place of the Leipziger Sommer was involved as a regular right winger with 25 of 26 point games and three goals. In 1950/51, Sommer's team started as BSG Chemie Leipzig and ended the season as East German champions. Summer was again the right attacker this year and contributed seven goals in 23 games to the championship.

For the 1951/52 season, the now 31-year-old summer moved to local rival Unity East Leipzig in the second-rate GDR league . In 1953 he returned to the league with Einheit Ost. In the new league season 1953/54, Sommer played 14 point games and then ended his career as a competitive athlete. In the GDR Oberliga, Sommer completed 62 games, 48 ​​for ZSG / chemistry and 14 for Einheit Ost Leipzig and was successful with 15 goals, eleven for ZSG / chemistry, 4 for unit.
