structure

The SV Grün-Weiß, founded in 1990 through the merger of the previous company sports associations Chemie Weißwasser and Chemie Weißwasser-Ost, had around 760 members as of 2008 and consists of 19 sports departments. The sports of soccer, handball, karate, wrestling and tennis are of greater importance for the club. For the sport of wrestling, Grün-Weiß Weißwasser is a support association of the DOSB . Its sports facilities include the "Turnerheim" sports center and the "Turnerheim Stadium".

history

Already at the end of the 19th century there were two sports clubs in what was then the glassmaking town: the “Gymnastics and Rescue Club” and the “Workers and Gymnastics Club”. The wrestlers were the most successful athletes at that time, they were among the best in the Silesian sports region. After the National Socialists came to power in 1933, all sports clubs in Weißwasser were merged to form the “Weißwasser Gymnastics and Sports Association”.

After the dissolution of all sports clubs by the Soviet occupation forces in 1945 and the restriction of sports competitions to the local level, athletes from Weißwasser founded the "SG Weißwasser" in 1946, which was primarily active in football. With the introduction of the system of company sports associations , several BSGs were launched in Weißwasser, of which BSG Chemie Weißwasser (ice hockey until 1953, football, fistball) and BSG Weißwasser-Ost (wrestling) later became the most successful.

Still under the name "BSG Ostglas", Weißwasser became GDR ice hockey champions in 1951 and 1952, and in 1953 as BSG Chemie. Then the SG Dynamo continued the ice hockey tradition in Weißwasser. Between 1976 and 1988 the women fistball won 23 GDR championship titles. The wrestlers from Weißwasser Ost were particularly successful in the youth field, where numerous GDR championship titles were fought. In 1989, the wrestlers rose to the GDR league, in which the GDR championship was fought.

History of football

Before the Second World War, football only played a subordinate role in Weißwasser. With the founding of SG Weißwasser, the soccer players got better in the public eye. In 1946 they won the championship of the district of Hoyerswerda, from 1947 to 1949 they were in the soccer district of East Saxony with good midfield ranks. In the 1952/53 season, the soccer team rose under the name "Chemie Weißwasser West" to the 3rd soccer league of the GDR, the district league , and won the district champion title there straight away. Associated with this was promotion to the GDR league for the 1954/55 season. In the 14th field, however, Chemie Weißwasser was only able to achieve five victories and after a year of being in second class was relegated to the Cottbus district league.

With a year break in the district class (1959), the chemists spent twelve seasons in the district league. From 1969 they sank for another six years in the lower football regions before they were able to rise again to the district league in 1975. After that, the team shuttled between third and fourth class until the end of GDR football operations in 1991.

In 2008, Weißwasser rose to the district league for the third time, but after the end of the season the club rose again to the district class.
