Ice hockey in Weißwasser

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

In Weißwasser , ice hockey has been played on the Braunsteich at the latest since 1929, and in various teams and clubs since the 1930s .

Clubs

In 1932, the first ice hockey club, Weißwasser , was founded in the then Silesian town by Günter Lehnigk, Fritz Dutschke, Siegfried Rohrbach, Helmut Bertko and the first chairman Martin Schulz in the bowling hall on Gartenstrasse . The first official game was won 5-0 against a Spremberg team before the club joined TSV Weißwasser in 1934 . A first game as TSV against the ice skating club Görlitz was lost 5-0. The revenge in Görlitz in front of 500 spectators was later won 5-4.

In 1936 the club was registered as a replacement for the Silesian champion EV Hindenburg for the final round of the German championship in Nuremberg . However, the master traveled there so that the participant in the final round was determined in scheduled qualifying games . The EV Hindenburg succeeded in doing this.

In 1937, 1941 and 1942 the TSV took part in the finals as the Silesian champion.

At VfR Weißwasser there should have been ice hockey at this time.

After the first team was founded in 1946 with BSG Kristall , BSG Ostglas followed in 1950 and BSG Chemie in 1952 . Ostglas and Chemie merged in 1953 to form SG Dynamo Weißwasser . Under this name they became German champions of the GDR a total of 25 times .

On November 7, 1959, what was then the largest and most modern open-air stadium in Europe was inaugurated with a European Cup game and was named Wilhelm Pieck . 7000 spectators saw a 4-4 draw between the GDR champions Dynamo Weißwasser and the Polish champions Legia Warsaw .

In 1977 an ice rink with a 250 m long speed skating rink was completed next to the open-air stadium.

In the 1980s, teams also took part in the determination of the best under the name Einheit Weißwasser , with these teams mainly consisting of dynamo players.

After the end of the GDR , Dynamo Weißwasser was quickly renamed PEV Weißwasser , then ES Weißwasser . For the years in the DEL , the professional department ESG Füchse Sachsen was called Chemnitz / Weißwasser .

With the SV EFV Weißwasser (until 1999/00), Grün-Weiß Weißwasser (until 2001/02) and the New Kings Weißwasser (until 2002/03) other ice hockey teams were involved in the game operations in Saxony.

In addition to the Lausitzer Füchsen ( 2nd league ) and the young foxes of the ES Weißwasser club , who participated in the Regionalliga Nord-Ost in 2006/07 as a syndicate with ELV Tornado Niesky , and the penguins that have been playing since 1990/91 - the women's team of Stammverein - is today with the EHV Rot-Weiß Bad Muskau , which previously competed under SV Rot-Weiß Bad Muskau and SV Rot-Weiß Weißwasser / Bad Muskau , another club that takes part in senior games in the fifth-class Saxony league .

The syndicate of the young foxes with Tornado Niesky ended at the end of the 2006/07 season. From the 2007/08 season, ES Weißwasser will concentrate on its own offspring and, in addition to the penguins - the women's team that takes part in the 2nd Northern League - will be competing in the junior leagues with their own teams. Likewise, the EHV Rot-Weiß Bad Muskau reported no team for the Sachsenliga for the 2007/08 season.

Various hobby teams also play in Weißwasser. For example, take white water Allstars on the Saxon Hobby League Dorfteich League and the Blue Trucks Weißwasser on the Saxon Hobby League Landskron league part.

Ice rinks

Weißwasser ice rink

On the one hand, Weißwasser had an ice rink , which was used exclusively for speed skating until 1990 . In addition, there was an open-air stadium right next to the ice rink, primarily for ice hockey, with a capacity of 15,500 seats, which, however , could no longer be used for ice hockey league sport, in accordance with the league statutes , due to the lack of roofing since the fall of the Wall . Since the 1990s, an extension of the open-air stadium with a roof was considered, but never carried out due to a lack of financial resources. In the years that followed, plans to build a new ice rink took shape. The Wilhelm-Pieck-Kunsteisstadion was demolished at the end of 2010 as a prerequisite for the new building, which was to be built on the same site .
On March 1, 2012, the groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of the new ice stadium, the "Eisarena Weißwasser" took place. The foundation stone was
laid on April 18, 2012. On the day of the first game of the season last season, the topping-out ceremony was celebrated in the adjacent old burrow . The planned construction costs of 15.7 million euros were clearly undercut during the construction phase. The opening of the "Eisarena Weißwasser" was celebrated on August 23, 2013 with a game against the reigning German champions - the Eisbären Berlin . After the former Dynamos fought thrilling duels in the smallest league in the world for years, those responsible saw the capital city team as the perfect opponent for this "historic moment".
