history

Until the church is planted

Friesenried was founded in 912. The ancestral castle of the Lords of Schwarzenburg , attested from 1230 to 1408, was located in the municipality of Blöcktach . The place Friesenried was first mentioned in 1145 by a document. Before 1800, Friesenried was the seat of an upper and lower court and belonged to the prince monastery of Kempten . Since the Reichsdeputationshauptschluss of 1803 the place belongs to Bavaria. In the course of the administrative reforms in the Kingdom of Bavaria , today's municipality was created with the municipal edict of 1818 .

District affiliation

Until the regional reform in 1972, Blöcktach and Friesenried belonged to the district of Marktoberdorf , and since then to the district of Ostallgäu.

Religions

Friesenried and the neighboring town of Salenwang belonged to the parish of Oberbeuren , a few kilometers away , until 1810 , which has been one of the oldest parishes in the Allgäu since it was founded in the course of missionary work. The services were initially held in the parish church of St. Bartholomew and Cyriakus , located in the open between Friesenried and Salenwang . After the construction of the church of St. Joseph in Friesenried, there was a dispute with the Salenwangern, which lasted over 100 years, in 1695. They insisted on holding the services in the church of St. Bartholomew and Cyriakus, which was more convenient for them. From 1816 there was a regulation to hold church services in St. Joseph in Friesenried in the winter and in St. Bartholomä in the summer. Since it was rebuilt in 1929, St. Joseph has been the Catholic parish church for Friesenried and Salenwang.
