history

Until the church is planted

The clan of an Alemanni Bido at the time of the conquest in the 6./7. Century is probably eponymous. The oldest mention of the place name around 1150 is "Bidigin". The family of the Lords of Bidingen is attested from 1256 to 1341. Bidingen in today's administrative district of Swabia belonged to the Augsburg bishopric , which had acquired village and judicial rule in Bidingen in 1506. Before that there had been frequent changes of landlords in the 14th and 15th centuries: the Imperial Monastery of Stöttwang, the Monastery of Kempten, the Knights of Baisweil, the Lords of Schwarzenburg, the Burgberg line of the Lords of Heimenhofen, etc. In the Peasants' War in 1525, Hans Badwerker was a Badwerker von Bidingen one of the peasant leaders in negotiations with the bishopric. During the Thirty Years' War and the plague in 1635, the population was decimated from almost 500 to 200. But already in 1675 the place counted again 430 inhabitants. With the Reichsdeputationshauptschluss of 1803, the place came to the Electorate of Bavaria . In the course of the administrative reforms in the Kingdom of Bavaria , today's municipality was created with the municipal edict of 1818 .

Bernbach

Bernbach, which was incorporated in 1978, was officially called "Bärnbach" from 1875 to 1912. The village belonged to the local government reform in 1972 the district Marktoberdorf .

Incorporations

On January 1, 1978, the previously independent municipality of Bernbach was incorporated.
