Marcus Thätner (born February 11, 1985 in Frankfurt (Oder) ) is a German wrestler . He won the bronze medal at the 2007 European Championships in the Greco-Roman style and was a participant in the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing as well as a four-time German champion.

Career

Thätner has been wrestling for RSV Hansa 90 Frankfurt (Oder) since 1990 , currently in the weight class up to 66 kilograms. His current trainer is Jörn Levermann. He graduated from high school in 2004 at the sports school in Frankfurt (Oder) . He then continued his training at the BTU Cottbus in the electrical engineering course. Due to his sporting activity and the associated training times, he received a separate study plan. Marcus Thätner was a sports soldier and NCO in the German Armed Forces .

At the military world championship in 2006 he was 12. Thätner was more successful in the 2007 European championship in Sofia , he won bronze. At the World Championship of the year in Baku he was only 30 in the class up to 66 kilograms. At the European Championship in 2008 he suffered his worst setback. In the fight against Plamen Petrov , he felt severe pain in his left calf. After losing the fight, he was examined and found to have compartment syndrome . Effect of the syndrome: The muscle bleeds due to a tear, tear or overload, whereby the resulting pressure squeezes nerves and vessels. After an emergency operation in Tampere , Finland , his leg was saved.

In Finland, Marcus started with light training so that he could regain his strength and get back on the mat as quickly as possible. After a very short training phase in preparation for the last qualifying tournament for the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing, he managed to get back into top form. With a third place at the second qualifying tournament in Novi Sad, he qualified for the 2008 Olympics. In the decisive fight, Thätner was able to prevail against the North Korean Kim Kum-chol .
