The Frankfurt (Oder) sports school was founded on September 1, 1954 as a children's and youth sports school. 1956 followed the profile in the sports athletics and gymnastics . In 1959 the modern pentathlon was added. The school has since the 1990s a sport emphasized comprehensive school and elite school of sport , the eight sports in competitive sports offered range: wrestling , Judo , Shooting , weightlifting , cycling , football , handball and boxing .

Learn about 500 students at the sports school, which for the most part performance sports operate. The sports school is located on Kieler Strasse and is part of the Cottbus / Frankfurt (Oder) Olympic base . With numerous successes at world and European championships as well as the Olympic Games , it is one of the most successful sports schools in Germany. Successful athletes such as Henry Maske and Torsten May (boxing), Marko Spittka (judo), Manfred Kurzer (shooting), Maik Bullmann (wrestling), Judith Arndt (cycling), Udo Beyer (shot put), Hans-Georg Beyer (handball) and Klaus Köste (gymnastics) visited this school and trained there.

The school complex offers excellent training conditions . Among other things, there is a cycling track in the neighboring Oderlandhalle , several first-class sports halls, a stadium, swimming pool, weight room, etc. The specialty of the school lies in the all-day offer , in which school and training are coordinated for the purpose of mutual success.
