At the Olympic Games in Athens , he disappointed again, because after a victory over Levente Füredy from Hungary he lost to the South Korean Kim In-Sub and was eliminated. He placed himself in 14th place.

In 2005 he made his big breakthrough. At the European Championships in Varna he won the European lightweight title with four wins in a superior style. In the final battle he defeated the German Christian Fetzer high on points. He also won the lightweight at the World Championships in Budapest that same year . In the decisive battles he defeated Alain Milián from Cuba , Armen Wardanjan, Ukraine and Hussamaddin Rajabow from Azerbaijan .

He came at the European championship in Moscow after a defeat in his second fight against the Turkish ex-world champion Şeref Eroğlu only on 10th place and lost at the world championship in Guangzhou, China after three victories against the American Justin Harry Lester , which put him in 7th place.

A very successful year for him was then in 2007. In Sofia he was for the second time European champion at lightweight and at the World Championships in Baku , he reached after a defeat in the semifinal against Darkhan Bajaktmetow from Kazakhstan with a win over Arman Adikjan from Armenia to yet 3rd place.
