Poor Frunsikowytsch Vardanyan ( Ukrainian Армен Фрунзікович Варданян , Armenian Արմեն Վարդանյան ; * the 30th November 1982 in Zaporizhia ) is a Ukrainian wrestler of Armenian origin. He was European champion in the Greco-Roman style in 2004 and 2008 in the lightweight .

Career

Armen Vardanyan came from Armenian parents, but grew up in Zaporozhye (Ukraine) and began wrestling there at the age of ten in 1992. He concentrated on the Greco-Roman style and was introduced to the top of the world by his trainer Murat Sarkisjan in the junior area. His club at the time was Dynamo Zaporizhia . Until 1998 he started for Armenia. In 1999 he went to Kiev , where he studied sports and competed for the sports club BK Kiev and for Ukraine . His coach there was Evgeny Chertkow.

He achieved his first major success on the international wrestling mat in 1998 when he finished 2nd with the Cadets (= up to the age of 16) in the class up to 57 kg (bantam weight) at the World Youth Games in Moscow . Took place. In 2000 he started in Moscow for the first time at the European Featherweight Championship for seniors. He still had to pay the hard way there and only came in 9th place. For this he was in the same year in Nantes junior European champion in featherweight, to which he added the vice world champion title in the junior lightweight in 2001 in Tashkent .

In 2001 he was back at the European Senior Championships in Istanbul , but lost his first fight there, had to retire and only finished 19th.

In 2003 he was back at the European Lightweight Championships in Belgrade . He won his first four fights there, but was then defeated in the final by the experienced Turkish world champion Şeref Eroğlu with 2: 5 points and became vice European champion .

In 2004 he won his first title in Haparanda / Finland. He became European champion with five wins in a superior style. At the Olympic Games in Athens that year , however, he could not win a medal. Again he lost to Şeref Eroğlu, this time with 0: 5 points.

In 2005 Armen Wardanjan competed at the European Championships in Varna and at the World Championships in Budapest . In Varna he won only one fight in the lightweight, but lost to Nikolai Gergow from Bulgaria and surprisingly against Moises Sanchez Parra from Spain and only reached 12th place. Things went better in Budapest. Here he won u. a. about the Swedish ex-world champion Jimmy Samuelsson , but had to admit defeat to Nikola Gergow again. In the fight for third place he was also defeated by Cuban Alain Milián and reached 5th place in the final score.

In 2006 and 2007 Armen Vardanyan was not used in the international championships. In April 2008 he was back at the European Championships in Tampere and won, stronger than ever, his second European title with five wins.
