Pablo Shorey

Pablo Enrique Shorey Hernández (born December 4, 1983 in Vertientes ) is a Cuban wrestler . In 2010 he was runner- up in the Greco-Roman style middleweight division.

Career

Pablo Shorey began wrestling as a teenager in 1994 in the capital of his home province of Camagüey. As a junior, the athlete, who only works in the Greco-Roman style, has not yet appeared on the international wrestling mat. It was not until 2005 that he appeared in the list of winners for the first time at an internationally renowned wrestling tournament, the Granma International Cup in Sancti Spíritus , when he finished second in the welterweight division behind his compatriot Odelis Herrera .

He later grew into the middleweight division at a height of 1.83 meters. In this weight class, he made his first start in an international championship in 2007. In San Salvador he took part in the Pan American Championship and finished 3rd behind Bradley Vering from the United States and Christian Mosquera from Colombia .

"Pablito" Shorey failed to make the jump to the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing . In 2009 he was used at the World Championships in Herning / Denmark . There he lost his first middleweight fight against Nazmi Avluca from Turkey , who later won the world title, but then won over the Olympic champions Zoltán Fodor from Hungary , Cho Hyo-chul from South Korea and Schalwa Gadabadse from Azerbaijan and thus won a world championship bronze medal .

In 2010 Pablo Shorey won the middleweight title at the Pan American Championship in Monterrey , Mexico, ahead of José Antonio Arias Paredes from the Dominican Republic and Luis Angel Betancourt Medina from Puerto Rico . At the world championship this year in Moscow he defeated Eddy Bartolozzi from Venezuela , Alchasur Aldijew from Kazakhstan , Wladimir Gogeschidze from Georgia , world champions Nazmi Avluca and Nenad Žugaj from Croatia and only lost in the final against Christo Marinow from Bulgaria on points (0: 2 rounds, 0: 2 and 0: 1 technical points).
