Charles Edward "Chas" Betts (born March 8, 1986 in Minneapolis , Minnesota , USA ), better known by his ring name Shorty Gable , is an American wrestler and former wrestler who is currently under contract with World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) . Betts held the WWE's highest tag team title twice overall.

Wrestling career

Betts participated in the 2012 Summer Olympics as a wrestler in Greco-Roman style in the weight class up to 84 kg. In the qualifying round he defeated Keitani Graham ( Micronesia ). In the next round he lost to the Cuban Pablo Shorey and was eliminated from the tournament, which he finished in 9th place.

World Wrestling Entertainment (since 2013)

Training (2013-2015)

In November 2013, Betts switched to wrestling. He signed a contract with World Wrestling Entertainment and got the ring name Chad Gable . He made his ring debut on September 5, 2014 at a NXT - House Show , where he could defeat Troy McClain. He made his television debut on NXT on January 8, 2015, when he lost to Tyler Breeze . He was then in house shows used by NXT.

American Alpha (2015-2017)

He later formed the American Alpha tag team with Jason Jordan . On April 1, 2016 at NXT TakeOver: Dallas defeated The Revival Scott Dawson and Dash Wilder to win the NXT Tag Team Championship . They lost the title to The Revival on June 8, 2016 on NXT TakeOver: The End .

At the WWE Draft 2016 , which took place at SmackDown , he was drafted as the first SmackDown tag team together with his tag team partner Jason Jordan. American Alpha played their first match on the main roster in the August 2nd, 2016 edition of SmackDown, when they defeated Vaudevillains Aiden English and Simon Gotch. When the WWE SmackDown Tag Team Championship was introduced, they entered the tournament for these titles. In the first round, American Alpha defeated Team Breezango Fandango and Tyler Breeze . In the semifinals they defeated the Usos , but Gable was attacked by the Usos after the victory, so that he injured himself and could not participate in the final, which took place at the PPV Backlash . Due to this injury American Alpha was eliminated from the tournament. In the December 27, 2016 issue of SmackDown, they defeated the Wyatt Family ( Luke Harper and Randy Orton ), the Usos, Heath Slater and Rhyno in a Four Corners Elimination Tag Team Match and won the for the first time WWE SmackDown Tag Team Championship . They lost the title to Usos on March 21, 2017 at SmackDown.

Tag Team Specialist (2017-2019)

On July 17, 2017, Jason Jordan joined Raw alone after it was revealed that he was a son of then Raw General Manager Kurt Angle . The American Alpha team was dissolved. On August 22nd, a new tag team was formed from Gable and Shelton Benjamin , who is returning to WWE . Both won a number of matches, including against The Ascension and the Hype Bros , which ultimately allowed them to compete in a title match against the reigning champions, The Usos . This match won Gable and Benjamin by counting, but could not win the title. A feud against the Usos ensued.

On April 16, 2018, Gable switched to Raw at the Superstar Shake-Up , which disbanded the team with Benjamin. On September 3, 2018, he joined Bobby Roode , with whom he now formed a new tag team. Together they became Team Captains for Raw in the Tag Team Elimination Match at Survivor Series, but failed to win the match. On December 10th, Roode and Gable won a handicap match against reigning Raw Tag Team champions The Authors of Pain and their manager Drake Maverick, making them Raw Tag Team Champions . Two months later, they lost the title to The Revival on February 11, 2019.

Back to the singles competition (since 2019)

As part of the Superstar Shake-Up 2019, Gable switched from Raw back to SmackDown on April 16, 2019 , so the tag team with Bobby Roode was also dissolved. He is currently waging a lengthy feud against Baron Corbin . He also reached the final of the King of the King tournament, which he could not win. On November 24, 2019, he played a Traditional Survivor Series Elimination Match against Drew McIntyre , Ricochet , Seth Rollins , Randy Orton , Kevin Owens , Damian Priest, Matt Riddle at the WWE Survivor Series together with Braun Strowman , Roman Reigns , Mustafa Ali and King Corbin , Keith Lee, WALTER and Tommaso Ciampa . He won that match.
