On July 14, 2005 Whitney had his first appearance on World Wrestling Entertainment , WWE for short . There he appeared under the ring name Thomas Whitney as Muhammad Hassan's lawyer at SmackDown , several matches followed. On February 4, 2007, Whitney finally signed a development contract with WWE. There he became part of WWE's then development league Ohio Valley Wrestling and competed under various ring names, initially only as Tommaso. After a real injury, he was named Dr. Thomas was appointed manager of the Bolin Services tag team . After his recovery he got a new gimmick as a masked wrestler named Prodigy from mid-2007 . On August 9, 2007, he was finally released from the WWE.

Ring of Honor (2011-2015)

After his release from the WWE, he joined the second half of 2007 under the name Tommaso Ciampa for various wrestling leagues and was able to win the MWF Television Championship of the Millennium Wrestling Federation on September 29, 2007 . He made a special impression on the Ring of Honor , where he played many matches from January 2011 to March 2015. He celebrated his greatest success at the Ring of Honor on December 14, 2013, when he won the ROH World Television Championship from Matt Taven at Final Battle . He held this title until April 4, 2014, when he was defeated by Jay Lethal on Supercard Of Honor VIII . On March 29, 2015, Ciampa announced that he was leaving the Ring of Honor .

Return to WWE (since 2015)

After completing a few matches at Total Nonstop Action Wrestling (TNA), he returned to WWE, initially without a long-term contract. There he took part as Tommaso Ciampa at NXT in a tag team with Johnny Gargano at the Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic . In the first round they could beat the team of Tyler Breeze and Bull Dempsey, but they failed in the second round to Baron Corbin and Rhyno . On March 31, 2016, Ciampa was confirmed by the WWE as a participant in the first Cruiserweight Classic tournament. There he was eliminated in the first round against his tag team partner Johnny Gargano. On April 2, 2016 it was announced that Ciampa had signed a long-term contract with the WWE, which also allowed him to play independent matches until September . He then officially became a full-time member of NXT and continued to tag team with Johnny Gargano . This team was now named #DIY . On November 19, 2016, they won the NXT Tag Team Championship from The Revival on NXT TakeOver: Toronto . They had to hand over the title to the Authors of Pain at NXT TakeOver: San Antonio on January 28, 2017 after a seventy days reign . On May 20, 2017, at NXT TakeOver: Chicago , Ciampa turned against his tag team partner Gargano after another loss to the Authors of Pain and attacked him. The tag team #DIY was thus dissolved. A few days after the match it was announced that Ciampa had sustained a real knee injury, which left him injured for several months.

On January 27, 2018 at NXT TakeOver: Philadelphia he returned by attacking his former tag team partner Johnny Gargano with a crutch. A complex feud ensued, with matches between the two on NXT TakeOver: New Orleans and NXT TakeOver: Chicago II . In the July 25, 2018 edition of NXT, recorded seven days earlier, Aleister Black's Ciampa won the NXT Championship after Gargano intervened in the match. In the following years he was able to successfully defend the title, including against Johnny Gargano, Velveteen Dream and Aleister Black.

Ciampa debuted on Raw on February 18, 2019. Together with his former NXT Tag Team partner Gargano, they were able to defeat the Raw Tag Team Champions The Revival in a non-title match . A day later, Ciampa and Gargano also competed on SmackDown Live, defeating The Bar ( Sheamus and Cesaro ) there. As a result, Gargano and Ciampa appeared again on NXT as Tag Team #DIY and took part in the Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic tournament in the NXT broadcasts from March 6th and 13th, 2019 . However, after two matches as a team, the alliance broke again after Ciampa tried unsuccessfully to attack Gargano after they were eliminated from the tournament.

Due to a real injury to the cervical spine, which required a surgical procedure and at the same time meant a longer break from active wrestling, Ciampa had to give up the NXT Championship shortly afterwards without a fight. This was in the NXT edition of 20 March 2019 the Chief Operating Officer of WWE, Triple H given known. He returned after an eight month injury hiatus. On November 23, 2019, he and Keith Lee, Dominik Dijakovic and Kevin Owens played a War Games match against The Undisputed ERA Adam Cole , Kyle O'Reilly , Roderick Strong and Bobby Fish on NXT TakeOver: WarGames III . He won that match. On November 24, 2019, he played a Traditional Survivor Series Elimination Match against Drew McIntyre , Ricochet , Seth Rollins , Randy Orton , Kevin Owens, Braun Strowman , King Corbin , at the WWE Survivor Series together with Damian Priest, Matt Riddle, Keith Lee and WALTER , Mustafa Ali and Shorty G. and Roman Reigns .
