Yvonne Englich (* December 5, 1979 in Waiblingen as Yvonne Hees ; † January 8, 2018 ) was a German wrestler .

Life

The trained saleswoman in retail and ultimately fire chief at the Dortmund fire brigade began wrestling at the age of nine. She learned her first steps at SC Korb , for which she also achieved her greatest international success. After finishing fourth at the first German championships in female wrestling in 1994 in Würzburg, she was runner-up in 1997 at the European Junior Championships. A year later she reached fifth place at the Junior World Championships. At the Junior European Championships in 1999 she was again Vice European Champion, then third at the Junior World Championships in the same year.

In 2000 she entered the senior division for the first time and reached seventh place at the world championships . In 2001 she was second at the German Championships. The athlete moved to Dortmund in 2001 for personal reasons. She achieved her first national title win in 2002. She then presented her Korber exercise bike Matthias Krohlas with the gold medal. In 2008 she became German champion again.

In 2008, Englich gave her starting right back to the home club, SC Korb. After two baby breaks, she returned to the wrestling mat. After her husband Mirko Englich won the silver medal at the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing , she planned to return to active sport with the aim of participating in the 2012 Olympic Games in London . One of the reasons why she followed her husband to the Frankfurt / Oder performance center was to be able to combine family and sport under professional conditions. The other successes were her third title at the German Championships in Freiburg and a third place at the EM 2011. The qualification for the 2012 Olympic Games, like her husband, Englich missed. She was removed from the federal squad at the end of 2012. In March 2013 she reached third place at the German championships.

At KSV Witten 07 , Englich was active as a youth coach.

On January 8, 2018, she died after a long period of cancer . She leaves behind her husband and two children.
