action

Since the death of his father, Fella has continued to live with his stepmother and her two sons Maximilian and Rupert. The three have taken over the property, while Fella has to live in a small room at the end of the corridor. He has become a servant to his stepfamily.

Every night Fella dreams of his father trying to get him a message about a hidden fortune, but every time he wakes up before he learns the secret. His stepfamily knows about the secret happiness and tries to win his friendship in order to steal his fortune when it is found.

The Princess Charmant of the Grand Duchy of Morovia is in town, and the stepmother makes a plan to couple one of her sons with her. Fella is not allowed to go to the ball, but a male fairy godmother tells him that he will not just be "someone" but will change into a "person".

On the evening of the ball, Fella transforms into a handsome prince and is pulled up in a limousine. Count Basie is playing on the ball when Fella makes his grand entrance. Immediately he gets the attention of the princess, with whom he dances from now on. The night comes to a sudden end when it strikes midnight. Fella has to go home and loses a shoe on the stairs.

Once home, a stepbrother suspects that Fella was the "Prince". He finally wants to know the place where Fella's father hid the money. Fella wants to give him the money, pulls a branch in the garden and the money pelts down on his stepbrother. Ready to give the money to his stepfamily, Fella says he doesn't need the money to be happy, he just wants a family. Ashamed, the stepmother orders her sons to return the money to Fella.

Princess Charmant searches for the mysterious prince with the shoe, finds Fella and tells him that she loves him. He runs away at first and doesn't think he's good enough, but eventually they come together.

criticism

"Modern reversal of Grimm's fairy tale: As a stepson, a young man is banished by his mother to the kitchen and after numerous humiliations, finally, a male fairy makes happy with a princess. Rather embarrassing grotesque with a wildly grimacing Jerry Lewis with no real humor. "
