Luckenwalder SC and from the 2009/10 season for KSV Köllerbach .
In his debut on the international wrestling mat he was the same very successful because it was found in 2000 in Sofia vice European champion in the junior flyweight behind the Russians Sergei Petrov. At the Junior World Championships of the same year in Nantes he came in 9th place with victories over Alexei Wakulenko from Ukraine and Jan Hocko from the Czech Republic and a defeat against Tibor Olah from Hungary .
After a disappointing 16th place at the 2001 Junior World Flyweight Championships in Tashkent , he won another medal at the 2002 Junior European Flyweight Championships in Subotica when he finished 2nd behind the Armenian Armen Antonjan.
As a senior, Wenelin Wenkow failed to qualify for participation in the Olympic Games in Athens in 2004 and at the 2004 European Championships in Haparanda , after defeats to Rowshan Bajramow from Azerbaijan and Bayram Özdemir from Turkey, he only came in 16th place. He didn't fare much better at the 2005 World Cup in Budapest . Here he retired in the bantamweight division after a defeat against Kwang Su Cha from North Korea after the first round and only finished 21st place.
2005 was a very successful year for Wenelin Wenkow. He was first runner-up in the European bantamweight championship in Moscow . He defeated Anders Nyblom from Denmark , Alexei Schaipak from Belarus , Bayram Özdemir and Rowshan Bajramow . Only in the final he was defeated by Roman Amojan from Armenia on points. He lost his first fight against Hamid Soryan Reihanpour in Beijing again and was eliminated and only finished 17th.
In some press reports, Wenelin Wenkow was named as a bronze medalist at the Beijing Olympics in free style bantamweight. But there is a mistake here with his compatriot Radoslaw Velikow .
At the Bulgarian championship in 2009 Wenelin Wenkow won again in the bantamweight division in front of Radoslaw Palchew and Petar Georgiew, but was not used at the European championships in Vilnius and at the world championships in Herning / Denmark.
