The representation of the State of Schleswig-Holstein at the federal level is an organizational part of the Schleswig-Holstein State Chancellery based in Berlin . The interests of Schleswig-Holstein are represented by the federal government through the state representation and the state's participation in the Federal Council is coordinated. Since April 1, 2020, State Secretary Sandra Gerken has been the authorized representative of the federal state of Schleswig-Holstein .
building
The representation building is located in the Ministergärten on the corner of Ebertstrasse in the Mitte district . The state representation shares the building with the representation of the state of Lower Saxony at the federal level . Due to the government moving from Bonn to Berlin, both countries needed a new agency, for which they announced an architecture competition in 1997, which was won by the architects Cornelsen and Seelinger from Darmstadt. They planned a building consisting of two lateral blocks connected by a glass-steel-wood construction. Schleswig-Holstein uses the right part of the building. The architects carried out the construction with construction costs of around 28 million euros. The shared building opened on June 28, 2001.
In addition to the political tasks, the building is also used for representation, as an event location and for the exhibition of art. The art on display is exchanged every two to three years. In addition to the permanent exhibitions, thematic exhibitions also take place, some of which are open to the public.
The representations of Saarland , Rhineland-Palatinate and, across the street, the representation of Hesse and the shared building of Brandenburg and Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania are in the immediate vicinity . The Holocaust memorial is on the back of the building .
