The representation of the state of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania at the federal level is the state representation of the German federal state Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania in the federal capital of the Federal Republic of Germany .
history
Like all German federal states, the state of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania also represents its interests vis-à-vis the federal government and the other federal states with a state representative.
Since the re-establishment of the federal state Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania after the German reunification from 1990 to 1999, the representation had been in the then federal capital Bonn . Organizationally, the state representation is part of the State Chancellery of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania and supports the work of the authorized representative of the state of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, who is basically a permanent state secretary . The state representative office has been in the federal capital Berlin since 1999. State secretary for federal affairs and authorized representative of the state of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania at the federal government has been Antje Draheim since June 2019 .
building
In Bonn
The first state representation was opened in Bonn in 1990. Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania used the building of the former Permanent Representation of the GDR , a three-story house at Godesberger Allee 18 , together with the federal state of Saxony. The building was converted between 1991 and 1994 for this purpose. Today the building is used by the German Nutrition Society (DGE).
In Berlin
After the decision of the Bundestag and Bundesrat to move to Berlin, the Mecklenburg-Vorpommern representation moved to the former house of the Kurmärkische Ritterschaftsbank and later the guest house of the Council of Ministers of the GDR in Mohrenstrasse 66. The building had been owned by the federal government since reunification. The state representative office was based here in the Minister Gardens until the new building was completed . Today the building at Mohrenstrasse 66 is part of the Federal Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs .
Since 2001, the state of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania has been sharing the newly constructed building of its state representative with the state's representative to the federal government in the historically significant ministerial gardens. The building was erected after a Europe-wide competition in 1997. The Hamburg architectural office von Gerkan, Marg and Partner and the Berlin landscape planner Krafft-Wehberg-Wes & Partner were commissioned with the planning and execution of the construction . The foundation stone was laid in February 2000 ; the inauguration of the state representation took place on October 18, 2001 in the presence of the Prime Ministers Harald Ringstorff and Manfred Stolpe as well as the Finance Ministers Sigrid Keler and Dagmar Ziegler with numerous guests from politics and business. The cost of the building was 18.41 million euros.
The connection between the two agencies is a shared, multi-storey hall. Two building angles that are not congruent are located around this: one of the wings is one storey lower than the other. There are event rooms on the ground floor, rooms for internal services on the first floor, the rooms for the departments on the second and the management areas of the two state representations on the third floor. The outer surfaces of the entire building are decorated with slate and Nordic wood, the inner facades with wood.
The garden area has terraces, water areas and Brandenburg pines. The so-called Philosophers' Walk offers the opportunity to take short walks.
