Jakob Brendel (born September 18, 1907 in Speyer ; † February 13, 1964 ) was a German wrestler .

Life

Brendel belonged to the absolute world class in bantamweight from 1929 to 1938. He recorded his great success alternately in both styles (Greco-Roman and freestyle). He had started wrestling with the Arbeiter-Athletenbund Deutschlands (AABD) and became German national winner in this association in 1929. In 1929 he moved from Speyer to Nuremberg for economic reasons and joined ASC Sandow Nuremberg, which also involved a change of association from AABD to DASV in 1891. He later moved from ASC Sandow Nürnberg to SC 1904 Maxvorstadt Nürnberg. He took part in two Olympic Games and four European Championships and won - with one exception - a medal at each of these events. He achieved all successes in bantamweight. His early death at the age of 56 came as a surprise.
