Johannes Herbert ( October 28, 1912 - December 30, 1978 ) was a German wrestler .

He began his career in Stuttgart with KV 1895 and achieved his first successes as a teenager, which continued with the active players at regional and Württemberg level. In its weight class, the bantamweight (up to 56 kg body weight), the competition in Germany with Olympic champions Jakob Brendel , Nuremberg , Justin Gehring , Friesenheim, Willi Möchel , Cologne , Hermann Fischer , Zweibrücken and Ferdinand Schmitz , Cologne was very strong. Nevertheless, he managed to qualify for participation in the 1936 Olympic Games in Berlin .

In Berlin he wrestled in free style in the bantamweight . He defeated Cazaux, France , Cakiryldiz, Turkey and Laporte, Belgium and was defeated in the finals against Herman Tuvesson , Sweden and Ödön Zombori , Hungary and won the bronze medal. In 1937 he was also used at the European Championships in Paris , this time in the Greco-Roman style. He won over Bertoli, Italy , Abramowitsch, France and Sikk, Estonia , but had to retire after a narrow 2-1 point defeat against Antonín Nič , Czechoslovakia, and finished in 4th place.

Johannes Herbert was German runner-up in the Greco-Roman style in 1938 and took third place in 1935 and 1936. In the free style he took third places in 1935 and 1936.

The war ended the active career of Johannes Herbert in 1939, who worked as a referee for many years after the war.
