Hermann Fischer (born January 18, 1912 in Asch , †  November 23, 1984 in Merseburg ) was a German athlete and communist resistance fighter against National Socialism .

Life

His parents, a circular knitter and his wife, moved from Asch to Apolda in Thuringia in 1914 , where he attended elementary school. His inclination towards woodworking, which was evident early on, led him to take up the profession of carpenter and joiner. As a teenager he worked as a wrestler in the Apolda sports clubs "Blau-Gold" and "Olympia". During the time of the global economic crisis and unemployment, he joined the Rote Hilfe , a communist aid organization. When the workers' sports clubs were banned in 1933, he continued to train in secret. In the same year he was imprisoned for several weeks for political resistance activities. Since 1935 he belonged to the regional resistance group Brümmer-Kleine . In 1936 he was sentenced to two years in prison with loss of honor. He spent his imprisonment in the “ Red Ox ” in Halle . After his release he continued to work for the Red Aid , was arrested again in 1941 and taken to Buchenwald concentration camp , where he had to work in the quarry, so that in the end he only weighed 40 kg.

After the liberation from National Socialism , he was recognized as a victim of the Nazi regime (VdN). He joined the KPD , organized the criminal police of the city of Apolda and then took over the management of an expropriated carpentry business. From 1947 to 1953 he was a member of the GDR national wrestling team . From 1951 he worked as a sports official and trainer in Berlin , Artern and Leuna , where he trained the young wrestlers for the GDR national team. His son Lothar was also a successful wrestler, who won a bronze medal for the GDR at the 1958 World Championships in Budapest . In 1968 he was appointed head coach of the GDR wrestling sport together with Hans Bachmann. In 1970 he had to give up his job due to illness, but continued to volunteer for sporting matters.

  1. ^ Initially, Hermann Fischer was proclaimed German master. After checking the competition list it was found that the leader of the competition list had made a mistake. After the competition list had been corrected, Walter Schlagmüller from Frankfurt-Eckenheim was the German champion, Fischer landed in 2nd place (see specialist magazine Athletik , No. 19 of October 1, 1949, pages 4/5 and 4 of February 15, 1950, Page 5)
