Waiblingen Old Town Festival

The Waiblinger Altstadtfest is a local festival in the Waiblinger Altstadt, which usually takes place on the last weekend in June. There were deviations from this in the years 2000, 2011 and 2017, when the festival took place on the first weekend in July. It traditionally starts on Friday evening and ends on the following Sunday evening. Every year over 100,000 people visit the Waiblingen Old Town Festival.

The Waiblingen Old Town Festival was held for the first time in 1975. The organizers are Waiblingen associations, organizations and schools. In 2020 the festival will be canceled due to the corona pandemic.

Staufer spectacle

Since 2007, the “Staufer Spectacle” has been taking place at the same time as the Old Town Festival, at which the professions of the Middle Ages as well as medieval customs and music are presented. The event is named after the old noble family of the Hohenstaufen , which produced German emperors and kings in the 12th and 13th centuries.

Incidents

On the evening of June 30, 2012, a severe storm occurred over the Remstal, which also hit Waiblingen hard. As a result, there were several incidents at the old town festival in which a total of nine people were injured. The Staufer spectacle was canceled on Sunday, July 1, 2012 due to the damage caused.
