Nugsari Zurzumia (born March 25, 1997 ) is a Georgian wrestler . In 2019 he became world champion in the Greco-Roman style in the weight class up to 55 kg body weight

Career

Nugsari Zurzumia is a member of the Georgian national wrestling team. He only wrestles in the Greco-Roman style and started wrestling in 2008. His trainer is Mukia Bakuy. As an adult, he weighs around 55 kg and is 1.60 meters tall. Further details of him, with the exception of his sporting successes, are not yet known.

In August 2013 he took part for the first time in an international championship, the Junior World Championship in the age group "Cadets" in Zrenjanin and finished 10th in the weight class up to 42 kg.

In May 2014 he won his first medal at an international championship with a 3rd place at the European Junior Championships in Samokow in the “Cadets” age group in the weight class up to 42 kg.

In the following years he won five more medals at international championships in the youth field. His greatest success was winning the title at the 2016 European Junior Championship in the “Juniors” age group in Bucharest in the weight class up to 50 kg. In the junior division, Nugsari Zurzumia only missed the medal ranks at the Junior World Championships (age group "Juniors") 2017 in Tampere in the weight class up to 55 kg with an 8th place. The main reason for this was his loss to Kerim Kamal from Turkey.

In April 2018 he started for the first time with the seniors at an international championship. He won a bronze medal at the European Championships in Kaspiisk, Russia, with a 3rd place in the weight class up to 55 kg. In June 2018 he became U23 European Champion in the same weight class in Istanbul. In the final battle he defeated Ekrem Öztürk from Turkey. At the Senior World Championships in Budapest in the same year, Nugsari Zurzumia won a bronze medal in the same weight class. After losing to Eldanis Asisli from Azerbaijan in Budapest after winning three fights in the semi-finals , he secured this medal in the consolation round with a victory over the Chinese Cao Liguo. Just a month later he was U23 world champion in Bucharest. In the final he defeated the strong Russian Vitaly Kabaloyev .

In March 2019 he became U23 European champion in the weight class up to 55 kg in Novi Sad. Here he won the final over the Romanian Florin Tita. The European Championships in Bucharest in April 2019 were disappointing for him, where he lost in the weight class up to 55 kg after a fight against the 2018 world champion Eldanis Asisli. Since this did not reach the final, he dropped out early and only finished 8th. Nugsari Zurzumia was all the more successful at the world championship this year in Nur Sultan, because he was world champion there in the same weight class with victories over Cao Liguo, Vitali Kabaloyev, Shota Ogawa , Japan and Chorlan Schakanscha , Kazakhstan.

In the 2019/20 season, Nugsari Zurzumia started in the German Wrestling League for SV Johannis Nürnberg .
