Eduardo Cabrera

Eduardo "El Negro" Cabrera ( Eduardo "Cabrerito" Cabrera ; born February 22, 1936 in Havana , † July 21, 2002 in Caracas ) was a Cuban pianist , arranger and band leader .

Cabrera began his musical training at the Conservatorio Nacional de Música and played the piano in Beny Moré's Banda Gigante at the age of sixteen . He came to Venezuela in the mid-1950s on a tour with the Los Rivero and settled in Caracas.

He first played in dance orchestras such as Los Peniques and Billo’s Caracas Boys and later founded a sextet and the Caracas Swing's Boys orchestra . He also worked with musicians such as Aldemaro Romero and Alberto Naranjo . He founded the Caracas Jazz Club and worked as musical director and arranger for RCTV , VTV and various recording studios. He won first prizes at the Festival del Niño in 1970, 1971 and 1972 and was honored at the OTI festivals in 1973 and 1975.
