Aldemaro Romero (born March 12, 1928 in Valencia , † September 15, 2007 in Caracas ) was a Venezuelan composer and conductor .

Life

Romero began his musical career with his father, Rafael Romero . In 1941 he went to Caracas and played the piano in various dance orchestras such as Sonora Caracas and the orchestras of Luis Alfonzo Larrain and Rafa Víctor . He made appearances on the radio and emerged as a composer of songs. In 1949 he traveled to Cuba and later to the USA, where he signed a contract as a composer with RCA Victor in 1951 . Under this label he released the album Dinner in Caracas in 1951 , the great success of which paved the way for numerous other record productions, including the series of "Dinner-in albums" Buenos Aires, México, Colombia and Río.

He subsequently worked with prominent singers and musicians such as Dean Martin , Jerry Lewis , Stan Kenton , Ray Mekin , Machito , Noro Morales and Tito Puente and made concert tours through Mexico, Puerto Rico, Colombia, Peru, Brazil, Argentina, Spain and France , Greece, Switzerland, Sweden, Italy, Russia, Egypt and Japan. For his music for the film Simón Bolívar he received the Peace Prize at the Moscow Film Festival in 1969. With the drummer Frank Hernández he created the Onda Nueva in the early 1970s , a style of music that combines elements of Joropo with influences of Bossa Nova .

Romero was also active in the field of classical music. He founded the Orquesta Filarmónica de Caracas in 1978 and performed as a guest conductor a. a. with the London Symphony Orchestra , the English Chamber Orchestra , the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra and the Romanian Radio Orchestra. As a composer of classical music he emerged with symphonic works, works for choir and orchestra and chamber music.
