Jorge Alberto Naranjo (born September 14, 1941 in Caracas ; † January 27, 2020 ) was a Venezuelan musician and composer .

Live and act

The son of the singer Graciela Naranjo and the radio presenter Magín Pastor Suárez began his musical career at the age of eighteen as a drummer and was a member of the band of Chucho Sanoja from 1963-64 , of Los Melódicos from 1965 to 1966 and of Porfi Jiménez's band from 1966-67 . He was also a sought-after studio musician in the 1960s and 1970s and performed with musicians who visited Venezuela, such as Charles Aznavour , Vikki Carr , Eddie Fisher , Engelbert Humperdinck , Julio Iglesias , Tom Jones , the Los Nicholas Brothers, Eliana Pittman , The Platters , Tito Rodríguez , Ornella Vanoni and Pedro Vargas .

In 1977 Naranjo founded the El Trabuco Venezolano orchestra , of which he was director and arranger. The ensemble, conceived as a jazz orchestra, was best known for its salsa music. It recorded five studio albums and two live albums with the Cuban band Irakere . Naranjo has also worked as an arranger for musicians such as the group Guaco , Ilan Chester , Simón Díaz , Oscar D'León , Ricardo Montaner , María Rivas and Aldemaro Romero . As a jazz musician he has worked with Jeff Berlin , Dusko Goykovich , Danilo Pérez , Arturo Sandoval , Bobby Shew and Dave Valentin , among others .
