Chucho Sanoja

Jesús "Chucho" Sanoja Rivero (born September 26, 1926 in Caracas ; † December 11, 1998 ) was a Venezuelan pianist, composer and orchestra leader.

Life

Sanoja began his musical career as an autodidact, then was a student of Benito Canónico and eventually became a pianist in the Los Hermanos Belisario dance orchestra . As a member of Leonardo Pedroza's orchestra Leonard Melody , he got an insight into the work of directing dance orchestras and acquired self-taught skills as an arranger. In the 1940s he worked for Radio Libertador and Radio Tropical , where he met the radio pioneer Luis Raymondi Bello .

In 1951, Sanoja founded his own orchestra with musicians such as Nelson Pinedo , Manolo Monterrey , Kiko Mendive , Pipo Rivas , Daniel Montes de Oca , Baldomero León , Yeyo , Alci Sánchez , Elisa Soteldo , Rafa Galindo , Chico Salas , Víctor Piñero , Víctor Pérez , Héctor Barinas , Alberto Beltrán , Tony Camargo and Paula Bellini performed. As a composer and arranger, he became known for titles such as Campesinita , Maracaibo , Magia Blanca , En la soledad , Aunque parezca inútil and Estoy Arrepentido . His suite La Resistencia remained unfinished. Sanoja was awarded the Order of Andrés Bello and the Medal of Merit of the Sociedad de Autores y Compositores de Venezuela (SACVEN).
