Benito Canónico

Benito Canónico (born January 3, 1894 in Guarenas , † October 13, 1971 ) was a Venezuelan composer.

Canónico was tutored as a child by his father Agostín Canónico, the founder of the Orquesta Canónico , and later attended the Academía de Musica in Caracas. In a military band he learned to play various wind instruments such as horn, trumpet, trombone and bow horn. He also mastered regional instruments such as the Arpa mirandina and the Cuatro . With compositions such as El Abuelito , Luisa Amelia , El Aguacate Guarenero , El Totumo de Guarenas , El Marán and others, he became an important representative of the Venezuelan Música típica . As his teacher, he had a decisive influence on the career of the pianist, composer and orchestra director Chucho Sanoja .
