Antonio Camargo Carrasco ( Tony Camargo ; born June 1, 1926 in Guadalajara , † August 5, 2020 in Mérida ) was a Mexican singer .

biography

Camargo began his career as a singer at the age of 16. For several years he was one of the singers in Carlos Uicab's Orquesta del Ayuntamiento in Mérida. He became famous with the song El año viejo by the Venezuelan composer Crescencio Salcedo , which he released on his first LP in 1953. Along with La Engañadora (by Enrique Jorrín ), El negrito del Batey (by Medardo Guzmán ) and Bandolera (by Victor Cavalli ), it is part of the Mexican música tropical . He also had great success with his recording of Angel Cus A Tabasco (1959) and the recording of El Partido por la mitad based on a text by the Puerto Rican Manuel Jiménez in the 1970s for the benefit of the Partido Acción Nacional .

In his long career, Camargo has appeared on radio and television, in films and in theaters, has taken concert tours and made hundreds of recordings with musicians such as Agustín Lara , María Victoria , José Alfredo Jiménez , Los Diamantes , Los Ases , Los Hermanos Martínez Gil , the orchestras of Pérez Prado , Pablo Beltrán Ruiz and many others.
