The year 2014 ended Shinobu Ōta with a 2nd place in the Japanese championship behind Kazuma Kuramoto, but before the long-time title holder Kohei Hasegawa .

In March 2015, Shinobu Ōta won the FILA Grand Prix in Szombathely ahead of Spenser Thomas Mango from the United States and Stig Andre Berge from Norway.
