The Canton Ferrette was 2015 a French constituency in the Arrondissement Altkirch , in Haut-Rhin and the region Alsace .

history

The canton was founded on March 4, 1790 as part of the establishment of the départements as part of what was then the "District Altkirch". With the founding of the arrondissements on February 17, 1800, the canton was redesigned as part of what was then the arrondissement of Altkirch (since 1857 Mulhouse). From 1871 to 1919 there was no further subdivision of the Altkirch district at that time . However, the boundaries of the canton of Pfirt were still used for statistical purposes, e.g. B. used for the delimitation of the constituency of Pfirt-Hirsingen in the election for the Second Chamber of the Landtag of the Reichsland Alsace-Lorraine in 1911. On June 28, 1919, the canton again became part of the Altkirch arrondissement. On March 22, 2015, the canton was dissolved.

geography

The canton bordered the cantons of Hirsingue and Altkirch to the north, the canton Huningue in the arrondissement of Mulhouse to the north-east and east and Switzerland with the cantons of Basel-Landschaft and Jura as well as enclaves of the canton of Solothurn to the south .
