The canton of Guebwiller is a French constituency in the Arrondissement of Thann-Guebwiller , in the Haut-Rhin department and in the Grand Est region .
history
The canton was founded on March 4, 1790 as part of the establishment of the departments as part of what was then the "District of Colmar".
With the founding of the arrondissements on February 17, 1800, the canton was redesigned as part of what was then the arrondissement of Colmar.
From 1871 to 1919 the area was part of what was then the Gebweiler district , to which there was no further subdivision.
On June 28, 1919, the canton became part of the Arrondissement of Guebwiller.
On March 22, 2015, the canton was changed in its layout and significantly enlarged.

geography
Until 2014, the canton bordered in the north with the canton Munster in the arrondissement of Colmar , in the northeast with the canton Rouffach , in the southeast and south with the canton Soultz-Haut-Rhin and in the west with the canton Saint-Amarin in the arrondissement Thann .
Today's canton Guebwiller borders in the north-west and north on the canton Wintzenheim , in the east on the canton Ensisheim , in the south-east on the canton Wittenheim and in the south-west on the canton Cernay .
None of the previous municipalities in the canton switched to other cantons. There were also seven municipalities from the canton of Soultz-Haut-Rhin (7 of the 11 municipalities).

Until the nationwide reorganization of the French cantons in March 2015, the canton of Guebwiller included the eleven municipalities Bergholtz , Bergholtzzell , Buhl , Guebwiller , Lautenbach , Lautenbachzell , Linthal , Murbach , Orschwihr , Rimbach-près-Guebwiller and Rimbachzell . Its layout corresponded to an area of 102.38 km 2 . Before 2015 it had a different INSEE code than it does today, namely 6808.
politics
In the first ballot on March 22, 2015, none of the five voting pairs achieved an absolute majority. In the runoff election on March 29, 2015, Alain Grappe / Karine Pagliarulo (both UD) won against Sylvain Marcelli / Carine Zoller-Abraham (both FN ) with 58.35% of the votes (turnout: 50.37%).
