Ungersheim is a French commune with 2341 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the canton of Wittenheim in the Haut-Rhin department in the Grand Est region (until 2015 Alsace ).

The place is between Ensisheim and Raedersheim , eight kilometers southeast of Guebwiller .

history

From 1871 until the end of the First World War , Ungersheim belonged to the German Empire as part of the realm of Alsace-Lorraine and was assigned to the Gebweiler district in the Upper Alsace district .

In 1904, exploratory drilling for crude oil in southern Alsace discovered extensive potash deposits at a depth of around 600 meters . The Alsace village wants to be self-sufficient and even has its own solar power plant. The "Radis" (radish), a local currency of its own, has existed in Ungersheim since 2013. This is intended to create incentives for residents to spend their money on site. There is a horse-drawn carriage that takes the children to school every morning. The gym is heated with wood, and a sponsoring association has taken over the management of the local organic farm, which not only supplies the school canteen, but also distributes biologically valuable meals in the schools in the surrounding villages.

Attractions

  • From June 2006 to September 2012 there was the Bioscope leisure and theme park near Ungersheim .
  • On July 12, 2014, the air and water theme park Le Parc du Petit Prince (“The Little Prince's Park ”) officially opened near Ungersheim on the grounds of the Bioscope theme park . There are around 30 attractions there, including labyrinths, a flight simulator, three cinemas and a butterfly farm.
  • Ungersheim is also the location of the Écomusée d'Alsace , an open-air park with over seventy houses that showcase the traditional architectural style in Sundgau and the rest of southern Alsace. In this museum village the visitor can learn more about traditional professions, domestic animal breeds and the local way of life.
  • The old Rodolphe potash mine next to the Écomusée, to be visited annually as part of the French Heritage Days (Journées du Patrimoine) in September.
