Brinckheim (German Brinkheim ) is a French commune with 405 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Haut-Rhin department in the Grand Est region (until 2015 Alsace ). It belongs to the arrondissement of Mulhouse , the canton of Brunstatt and is a member of the Saint-Louis Agglomération community association .
geography
Brinckheim is located in the south of the Upper Rhine Plain , in the triangle between Germany , France and Switzerland , west of Bartenheim . The place is 10 km from Basel in the southeast and 10 km from the eastern border with Germany, i.e. from the Rhine . The distance to the northwestern Mulhouse is about 25 km.
Neighboring communities of Brinckheim are Uffheim in the north, Bartenheim in the east, Blotzheim in the southeast, Michelbach-le-Bas in the south and Kappelen in the west.
history
In 1194 the village appears for the first time under the name Brunkehen and at that time belonged to the Habsburgs . Later it was an Austrian fiefdom of the Landser bailiffs . Around 1700 the village belonged to the Schenk von Castell family and from 1732 until the French Revolution to the d'Anthès family.
From 1871 until the end of the First World War , Brinckheim belonged to the German Empire as part of the realm of Alsace-Lorraine and was assigned to the district of Mulhouse in the district of Upper Alsace .
In 1939 and 1940, the villagers had to be evacuated to the Landes department as a result of the Second World War . On November 19, 1944, Lieutenant Jean de Loisy's tank unit managed to liberate Brinckheim.

Culture and sights
- A millstone dated 1597 stands at the entrance to the village.
- Le beau moulin - the beautiful mill - is a landmark of Brinckheim. The house was built in the first half of the 18th century and is a relic of architecture from that period.
- The rectory was built around 1900 and has served as the town hall since 1994.

The chapel, which stands in the place of today's church, was consecrated to Saint Francis of Assisi by the Basel Auxiliary Bishop Jean Christophe Haus in 1705 (Brinckheim is the only municipality in the Upper Rhine region that Francis of Assisi regards as its patron saint). Only the choir of the chapel has been preserved. After the tower threatened to collapse, the nave and the sacristy were enlarged in the 19th century according to plans by the Mülhausen architect Jean-Baptiste Schacre .
