Steinbach is a French commune with 1,360 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Haut-Rhin department in the Grand Est region (until 2015 Alsace ). It belongs to the Arrondissement of Thann-Guebwiller and the canton of Cernay . With the exception of the southeast, the municipality is part of the Ballons des Vosges Regional Nature Park .
geography
The municipality of Steinbach is located at the foot of the Vosges , about 17 kilometers northwest of Mulhouse . The settlement area of the municipality extends in the valley of the Thur tributary Erzenbach and merges seamlessly into that of the city of Cernay in the southeast . The wooded terrain rises steeply to the northwest; At 922 m above sea level, the Becherkopf is the highest point in the municipality.
Neighboring communities of Steinbach are Uffholtz in the northeast, Cernay in the south, Vieux-Thann in the southwest, Ammertzwiller in the south, Thann in the west, and Bitschwiller-lès-Thann in the northwest (point of contact).
