Rammersmatt is a French commune with 223 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Haut-Rhin department in the Grand Est region (until 2015 Alsace ). It belongs to the Arrondissement of Thann-Guebwiller and the canton of Cernay .
geography
The village of Rammersmatt is nestled between the Thann and Masevaux valleys on the south-eastern edge of the Vosges, about 20 km from Mulhouse in the east and 30 km from Belfort in the south-west. The place is surrounded by vast forest areas, only in a southerly direction does the hilly landscape open towards the neighboring villages of Bourbach-le-Bas and Roderen . The municipality is located in the Ballons des Vosges Regional Nature Park .
history
The name of the community goes back to the German family name Ramprecht. In 1323 it appears in the sources as Ramprechtes matten . Rammersmatt was formerly a lease of the Saint-Morand priory . The village was destroyed in the Thirty Years War . After that, it was abandoned for a long time.

Rammersmatt is the smallest village in the Thann region. After a slight decrease in the number of inhabitants in the early 1960s, the community has since recorded a slow but constant increase in population. In 1999, the proportion of those under 30 was well over 30%, and that of those over 60 was slightly more than 20%.
Attractions
- The Saint-Jean Gualbert church has a Gothic bell tower from the 13th century.
- A memorial commemorates the liberation of the place towards the end of the Second World War by the Bataillon de Choc .
