Fellering (German Felleringen ) is a French commune with 1606 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Haut-Rhin department in the Grand Est region (until 2015 Alsace ). It is a member of the Vallée de Saint-Amarin municipal association .
geography
The municipality of Fellering is located in the valley of the Upper Thur , 30 kilometers northwest of Mulhouse . The 21.3 km² area of the municipality is part of the Ballons des Vosges Regional Nature Park and borders the former Lorraine region to the west . In the north-west of the municipality, the 884 meters high Col d'Oderen runs over the ridge of the Vosges .
Neighboring communities of Fellering are Kruth and Oderen in the north, Linthal and Lautenbachzell in the northeast, Ranspach in the southeast, Husseren-Wesserling in the south, Urbès and Bussang in the west and Ventron in the northwest.
history
Fellering was first mentioned in a document in 973, when Charlemagne bequeathed a large part of his property there to the Murbach monastery . But the place was definitely there before that date.
From 1871 until the end of the First World War , Fellering belonged to the German Empire as part of the realm of Alsace-Lorraine and was assigned to the district of Thann in the district of Upper Alsace .

Attractions
In the village stands the neo-Romanesque church of St. Anton from the German Empire between 1871 and 1918, built between 1878 and 1880. An organ by the organ builder Joseph Callinet was replaced in 1948 by a new one.
traffic
Fellering is served by line 16 of the TER Alsace railway company , a subsidiary of SNCF , from Mulhouse to Kruth . On the southern edge of the municipality, the RN 66 / European route 512 runs , which leads from Mulhouse over the Col de Bussang to Épinal .
Sports
The place is a center of paragliding . The athletes start mainly from the heights of the Markstein and the Drumont . In 1999 the Paragliding World Cup took place here. The area is also interesting for hikers.
