Jay Robert Thomson (born April 12, 1986 in Krugersdorp ) is a South African racing cyclist .

Athletic career

In 2007 Jay Robert Thomson won silver in the individual time trial and bronze in the road race at the African Championships , the following year he was African champion in the individual time trial and South African U23 champion in the same discipline, and he also won the Tour of Egypt . In 2008 he won three medals at the African Championships : gold in individual and team time trials and silver in road races. In 2010 he had his first successes outside of Africa with stage wins at the Tour of Wellington and the Tour de Langkawi .

At the 2011 African Games , Thomson won the team time trial with Nolan Hoffman , Reinardt Janse van Rensburg and Darren Lill and finished second in the road race. In 2012 he won a stage of the Volta a Portugal and again won silver in the road race and bronze in the individual time trial at the African Championships . In 2015 he was again runner-up in the African team time trial (with Nickolas Dlamini , Reinardt Janse van Rensburg and Louis Meintjes ).
