Jacobus "Jaco" Venter (born February 13, 1987 in Stellenbosch ) is a former South African racing cyclist .

Athletic career

Jaco Venter was South African runner-up in the road race of the junior class in 2005. He also took second place in the Maluti Challenge and in the junior competition of Omloop Het Volk . In 2006 he then drove for the South African Continental Team Konica Minolta . In the 2007 season, Venter finished third in the Giro del Capo and won the one-day race Dome 2 Dome .

In 2009 Venter was two-time South African champion in the individual time trial , in the elite class and in the U23. In 2011 he won the silver medal in the team time trial at the African Championships together with Herman Fouche , Reinardt Janse van Rensburg and Louis Meintjes . In 2016 he became the South African road racing champion .

From the middle of the season on, Venter drove for the South African team MTN Qhubeka , later Team Dimension Data . For this team he contested seven Grand Tours , all of which he was able to finish: twice the Giro d'Italia , once the Tour de France and four times the Vuelta a España .

After the end of the 2019 season, he ended his active career.
