Ryan Gibbons (born August 13, 1994 in Johannesburg ) is a South African racing cyclist .

Athletic career

Ryan Gibbons got into cycling through his parents, both active cyclists. At first he rode a mountain bike and competed in Gran Fondo races, often together with his parents, but shorter distances than these.

In 2012 Ryan Gibbons finished eleventh in the junior individual time trial at the African Championships; the following year he finished third in the elite time trial. For 2017 he received a contract with the Dimension Data team , after having driven there as a stagiaire the year before . In the same year he won the Tour de Langkawi . Gibbons finished fifth in a stage three times at the Giro d'Italia in 2017, 2018 and 2019.

In 2019 Gibbons was third in the individual time trial of the African Championships and fourth in the road race. He also finished fourth in the Cadel Evans Great Ocean Road Race . At the Tour Down Under he was eleventh and also South African runner-up in road racing behind Daryl Impey . At the Africa Games in Morocco in 2019 , he won the individual time trial and, together with the South African team, the team time trial; in the road race he came second. In 2020 he became national road champion.
