Pegi Young (1992)

Pegi Young (born Margaret Mary Morton December 1, 1952 in San Mateo, California ; † January 1, 2019 in Mountain View, Santa Clara County, California ) was an American singer and songwriter .

Life

In 1974 she worked as a waitress in a restaurant, where she met Neil Young , whose ranch was nearby. In 1978 they married.

In 1983 she accompanied her husband as a background singer on the Rockabilly Shocking Pinks Tour, as a member of The Pinkettes . In 1994 she appeared on television with her husband at the Academy Awards . The Youngs also performed at several of their annual benefit concerts for the Bridge School they founded . Young also accompanied her husband as a background singer on the 2000 tour.

In 2007 she released her debut album Pegi Young , which she recorded in the home studio at Broken Arrow Ranch. The albums Foul Deeds (2010) and Bracing for Impact (2011) followed. She toured and performed with her band The Survivors , including Spooner Oldham on piano and Rick Rosas on bass.

In July 2014, Neil Young filed for divorce from Pegi after 36 years of marriage.

Young died of cancer in California on 2019 at the age of 66.
