The 10th African Cycling Championships were held from February 9th to 14th in Wartburg, South Africa in the province of KwaZulu-Natal . The races were part of the UCI Africa Tour 2015 in the CC category . The participants each started in the national teams of their home countries.
For the first time, track competitions were held within the same championships. The venue was the Sax Young Cycling Track in Alexander Park in Pietermaritzburg . The track is open, made of concrete and 464 meters long. The fact that there are only a few cycle tracks in Africa was reflected in the results, and the host South Africa dominated all track disciplines. There are several tracks there, such as the Bellville Velodrome in Cape Town , where international competitions have already been held, and others in Johannesburg , Pretoria and Durban .
After the African cycling season lasted from October to September of the following year in previous years, in 2014 it was brought into line with the global calendar of the World Cycling Association UCI , where the season lasts from January to December. To adjust the season, the previous year ran from September 2013 to December 2014, so that the African season now also begins in January. The result was that the African championships, which are now to take place at the beginning of the year, were canceled in 2014. Until 2013 they were held towards the end of the year.
