Ebtisam Zayed Ahmed Mohammad ( Arabic ابتسام محمد; * September 25, 1996 in Suez ) is an Egyptian cyclist who is active on the road and track . Up to and including 2019 she won 15 titles as African champion on the track.
Athletic career
Ebtisam Zayed has been an international cyclist since 2011. At first she finished on the podium at Arab championships and pan-Arab games in the juniors, but also in the elite class of women. In 2013 she won a silver medal in the road race and a bronze medal in the individual time trial of the juniors at the African road cycling championships . In 2014/2015 Ebtisam Zayed was invited to train at the World Cycling Center in Aigle, Switzerland .
In 2015, Zayed won two medals on the track at the African championships , bronze in the singles pursuit and silver in the omnium . In 2015 she became the Arab champion in the individual time trial and won six gold medals at the Arab track championships in Sharjah . The following year, she won a total of six medals on the track at the continental championships , three of which were gold. She has also been Egyptian champion in various disciplines several times.
In 2016 Ebtisam Zayed was nominated for participation in the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro . She was the only African track cyclist to start at the games. in the sprint she finished 27th and last. At the African Road Championships in 2017 , she won a total of five medals, three gold and one silver on the track and one bronze medal on the road. This made her the most successful female athlete in these continental championships. The following year she became a seven-time African champion on the track. In 2018 she won a total of six medals, including two gold ones , at the African track championships in Pietermaritzburg, South Africa . So she became the African champion in the Omnium discipline, which was held for the first time for women .
