The Bellville Velodrome was built in 1991. The cycling track is 250 meters long and the concrete substructure is covered with wood. The curve superelevation is 43 degrees.

In 2002 the track cycling world cup took place here, in 1997 and 2008 the UCI track world championships for juniors . In 2007 the UCI B World Championships track competitions were held in the Bellville Velodrome .

Originally the cycle track was open, in 1997 it was given a roof; since then the hall has also been used for concerts. The audience capacity was increased from 2000 to 6000. It is one of eight cycle tracks in South Africa.

Since 2010 there have been plans to demolish the Velodrome, which is in poor condition, and to build on the area with a shopping, office and hotel complex. In 2019, an approval procedure with public participation was initiated.
