Hadnet Kidane Asmelash (born July 17, 1993 in Aksum ) is a former Ethiopian cyclist .

Athletic career

Hadnet Asmelash was initially active as a gymnast before she decided to go cycling at the age of 15. She is one of 18 female cyclists from her home region of Mek'ele and today (as of 2016) rides for the TransEthiopia team . The team members share a house and receive a fixed salary (men and women the same amount). Asmelash, who weighs just under 50 kilograms, trains daily at an altitude of 2,400 meters in the morning and learns English in the afternoon. Her partner is the cyclist Tsgabu Grmay .

At the African Championships in December 2013 she finished third in the team time trial together with Meseret Hagos , Selam Hagos and Eyerusalem Kelil , and in the road race she was sixth. In 2015 she was third at the Africa Games in the team time trial (with Tsega Beyene , Eyeru Gebru and Sendel Tewele ) and in the road race of the African championships . By 2016 she had won seven national titles.
