Thomas Sylvester "Tom" Taylor (born December 4, 1880 in Galt , ON ; † August 15, 1945 in Winnipeg , MB ) was a Canadian soccer player and Olympic champion .
Career
Taylor belonged to the football club Galt FC, founded in 1881 (or 1882) from the city of the same name, today's district of Cambridge in the province of Ontario , from 1901 to 1904.
With the club, which has joined the Western Football Association founded in Berlin in 1880 and has been a member of the Ontario Football Association League since 1901 , he won the Ontario Cup three times in a row .
He took part with Galt FC , representing the Western Football Association and Canada , in the Olympic soccer tournament , which was held from November 16 to 23, 1904 in St. Louis on Francis Field . Since only three teams had registered for the tournament - the tournament was met with little interest in Europe - Galt FC competed with two college teams from St. Louis. The first game against Christian Brothers' College was won 7-0, in which Taylor contributed one goal, the second game against the St. Rose School of St. Louis 4-0, in which Taylor scored two goals. Since the meeting of the two college teams ended goalless on November 20, 1904, Taylor won the gold medal with his team .
