Merhawi Kudus Ghebremedhin (born January 23, 1994 in Asmara ) is an Eritrean road cyclist .

Career

In 2012 Kudus won the first stage of the Tour of Rwanda , which he finished in sixth place overall. In 2013 he won the mountain classification of La Tropicale Amissa Bongo and came second in the Tour of Eritrea , where he also won the final section. At the Vuelta Ciclista a León , he also finished second overall. This was followed by an engagement as a stagiaire with the French Professional Continental Team Bretagne-Séché Environnement , for which the Tour de l'Ain was 17th . For the Center Mondial du Cyclisme , Kudus took part in the Tour de l'Avenir , which he finished in 11th place. The Road World Championships 2013 in Italy Florence he reached the road race on the 15th place in the U23 class. In December 2013, Kudus also won the bronze medal in the road race at the African Championships.

At the beginning of the 2014 season, Kudus moved to the South African Professional Continental Team MTN Qhubeka . At the Tour de Langkawi , Kudus achieved second place in the overall ranking after finishing second in the mountain finish on the Genting Highlands . In his first World Tour race, Milan-Sanremo , Kiundus finished 104th. In August 2014, Kudus made his Grand Tour debut at the Vuelta a España 2014 and finished the tour as 92.

In February 2015, Kudus won the Africa Championship in the team time trial as part of the Eritrean team . He competed in the Tour de France for the first time in July 2015 . As the youngest driver in the race, he finished 84th overall. In 2015 Kunduz played its first Giro d'Italia . He finished the Tour of Italy in 37th place overall

At the Tour of Oman 2017 , a stage race hors categorie , he came fourth overall and won the junior class. He finished ninth in the same race in 2018. After becoming the Eritrean elite champion in road racing for the first time in June 2018, he finished the Vuelta a Burgos , also hors categorie , seventh overall.

Kundus switched to the Astana Pro Team in 2019 and won the overall ranking and two stages of the Tour of Rwanda for this team .
