Genting Highlands ( Malay Tanah Tinggi Genting ) is a 1760 m high hilltop in the Titiwangsa Mountains on the border of the states of Selangor and Pahang in Malaysia . The Genting Highlands Resort is located on the top of the hill and is usually referred to when the term Genting Highlands is mentioned.

The resort consists of six hotels with a total of 10,000 rooms, rooms for large events and conferences, a casino , amusement parks with over 50 rides , 170 restaurants, bars and shops and other entertainment options. The hotels are the Maxims , Genting , Highlands Hotel , Theme Park Hotel , Resort Hotel and the First World Hotel , which is the largest hotel in the world with 7351 rooms . The Awana Genting Highlands, Golf & Country Resort , located on the hillside , is also part of the resort.

The facility is located about 50 km northeast of Kuala Lumpur and can be reached from there by car in about an hour via the E 8 - Kuala Lumpur - Karak Expressway . It is also accessed by a gondola , the Genting Skyway .

In the high location there is a pleasant climate with temperatures that rarely exceed 25 ° C or fall below 14 ° C.

Genting Highlands Resort is operated by Resorts World Genting , the Awana Genting Highlands Hotel is operated by Awana Hotels & Resorts , both companies of Genting Malaysia Berhad . Genting Highlands Resort was founded in the 1960s by Tan Sri Dato Seri Lim Goh Tong , a Malaysian entrepreneur who immigrated from China in 1937. The complex opened in 1971. The group is now run by Tan Sri Lim Kok Thay , the founder's son.

Genting Highlands Resort was often a stage destination of the Tour de Langkawi , a famous cycling race.
