history

The castle was built during the first quarter of the 12th century. In 1424 Heinrich von Hohenstein bought Lütelmann Castle from Rathsamhausen . In 1477 ownership passed to Müllenheim . In 1530 construction work was carried out by the brothers Christoph and Caspar von Müllenheim, and in 1553/57 the castle was finally sold to Conrad-Dietrich von Rathsamhausen-Ehnweier.

Layout

The ruin consists of a four-storey residential tower ( Donjon ) dominating the complex, with a height of 18 meters on a floor area of ​​around 11.90 × 16.10 meters. Its wall thickness is 1.8 meters. In addition, the castle has a round keep as well as several outbuildings, a curtain wall , kennel and a barbican .

A visit to the castle ruins is currently (2020) not possible due to the risk of collapse, but the castle grounds can be entered on selected days up to and including the moat . Safety and restoration work was initiated in 2017.
