Fyns Amts Avis is a regional Danish daily newspaper based in Svendborg . Their distribution area extends from the south and east of the Danish island of Fyn (Danish: Fyn ) to the South Funen Archipelago . While it comprised 16 municipalities before the 2007 municipal reform, the area today covers the municipalities of Svendborg , Faaborg-Midtfyn , Langeland and Ærø . The owner is the public limited company A / S Svendborg Avis , which together with the former competitor Fyens Stiftstidende founded the company Fynske Medier P / S in 2006 , under whose roof the two daily newspapers are published. The reporting is in the tradition of critical local journalism .

The newspaper has had to experience a considerable decline in its circulation in recent years , which in 1994 was still over 22,000 copies a day. In April 2011, a circulation of around 13,000 copies reached over 43,000 readers. This means that the Fyns Amts Avis is read in almost every second household in its core area, which has around 200,000 residents. The joint Sunday edition of Fyns Amts Avis and Fyens Stiftstidende reached a weekly circulation of 67,944 copies in the first half of 2010.

The newspaper first appeared on February 2, 1863 under the title Sydfyenske Tidende in order to create a mouthpiece for political democracy and peasant liberation . The liberal paper, which was close to the reform wing of the Venstre party , quickly established itself in the hinterland and later in Svendborg. In the 1960s, the newspaper merged with some local newspapers, allowing it to be expanded to its current size. Since 1970 the newspaper appears under its current title Fyns Amts Avis . Around the same year, a newspaper war began against the Fyens Stiftstidende , which could only be ended by an agreement in 1978. Since 1996 Fyns Amts Avis has been printed in the Odenser printing house of Fyns Stiftstidende .

In addition to the headquarters in Svendborg, there are local editorial offices in Ærøskøbing (for Ærø ), Faaborg , ringen (for the Midtfyn region ), and Rudkøbing (for Langeland ).
