Johannes Larsen Museum in Kerteminde

Kerteminde [ kɛʀdəˈmenə ] is a Danish town in the municipality of Kerteminde and is located on the Great Belt on the Baltic Sea island of Funen , in the Syddanmark region . The population of the city was 5987 on January 1, 2020. The port city has Funen's largest fishing port with a fish auction market and fish factories.

Attractions

The landmark of Kerteminde is the granite sculpture "Amanda" by the sculptor Robert Lund-Jensen. The statue of a fisher girl was placed on the bridge over the Kerteminde Fjord in 1954. It refers to the popular Ulklied " Min Amanda var fra Kerteminde " ( Eng . My Amanda was from Kerteminde).

The Viking ship from Ladby was excavated in Kerteminde in the 1930s ; it can be viewed in a specially built museum in the Ladby district.

The marine research and experience center Fjord- og Bælt Centeret provides knowledge about the marine ecosystem . There are porpoises , seals and a sensing pool with crabs , flounder and other creatures.

The painter Johannes Larsen (1867–1961) came from Kerteminde and worked here. Thanks to the many guest rooms, his beautiful house from 1901 developed into a gathering point for painters, especially Fyn painters ( Fynbomalere ). The house now houses the Johannes Larsen Museet and was expanded in 2001.

Others

The writer Frederik Paludan-Müller was born in Kerteminde in 1809. The businessman and inspector of Greenland Arent Christopher Heilmann was born there as early as 1781 .

The sports boat yard “Folkebådcentralen” has been producing Nordic folk boats since 1977 . Instead of wood, fiberglass was used for the first time , enabling a renaissance of the classic boat type from 1942.

The village of Møllebakken next to Kerteminde is the artistic center of the Funen painters .

Town twinning

A partnership with the German city of Uslar, which had existed since 1985 , was dissolved in 2010 as a result of the Danish municipal reform.
